South Africa had to work hard in the first 20 minutes of the game, whereafter they started to pull away from Italy to win (49-3) and secure their place in the quarter-finals of the 2019 Rugby World Championship.
South Africa was in complete control from the first minute of the and lead 17-3 at halftime. Their physicality has simply been too much for the Italians. Italy lost both of their tight-head props inside the first half-hour, which resulted in uncontested scrums for the remainder of the game, depriving South Africa of one of their more potent weapons.
Italy was reduced to 14 men after a red card in the first few minutes of the second half. Thereafter, the Springboks was the only team on the field.
